I love hot chocolate.

I love it so much that I would drink hot chocolate in the summertime after swim team practice… maybe with the heater on (but don’t tell my energy-saving parents that). During the wintertime I typically drink hot chocolate every night. Diet hot chocolate is kind of the best thing to have ever happened to me. But Snugglies are sooo much more than that.

OK… So a “Snugglie” is just my family’s made-up term for hot chocolate mixed with peppermint schnapps…. because I’m not sure there’s anything else I’d rather do than snuggle up after drinking one of these!

I was first introduced to Snugglies while snowboarding on the slopes of Bear Valley (my sisters are great role-models). There is no better feeling than coming off the freezing cold slopes and warming yourself up in the lodge with a hot Snugglie. Warms you up from the inside out!

Get crazy, make your own hot cocoa then mix it with alcohol. Save the hot cocoa packets for diets. 😉

Snugglies recipe adapted from Jackie Riley of Food Network:

1 ½ cups heavy cream

1 ½ cups milk

¼ cup sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped

2 ounces peppermint schnapps

Sweetened whipped cream, for garnish

Chocolate shavings, for garnish

  1. In a saucepan, combine the cream, milk, sugar, and salt and heat over medium-low heat. When the cream mixture just begins to steam, add the chopped chocolate, and stir, until melted.
  2. Remove from heat and add peppermint schnapps
  3. Divide the hot chocolate among mugs and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Makes 2 servings.

I can’t wait to make these and watch classic Christmas movies! Good thing you made these right and not a 1:1, schnapps: cocoa ratio 😉
